Today, a frustrating work project took most of the day but here is a little sketch I did on Labor Day, as we started cutting some of our dead standing trees and stack logs in the wood shed... We will be doing a lot more of this in the next few weeks!
I was noticing the subtle color change in the high grasses in our woods and did this quick little page while testing my watercolor pencils. It is fun using them for quick drawing and it helps me to keep the colors fresh and simple.
I think I need a darker green...
Lovely study! Lots of depth. Thank you so for larger type :) When I use my small set of Derwent wc pencils I usually mix my greens. I love combining prussian blue with golden brown for dark olive green. Prussian with deep cadmium makes more of a green, green depending on the ratio of yellow to blue. for real light areas I'll lay on a lot of the cad yellow and put just a touch of spectrum blue on. Our salt marsh grass is starting to take on new colors. Seems like it just turned bright green. Time doth fleeith!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the color tips Pam! I will experiment with the mixes you mention.
ReplyDeleteI haven't use the wc pencils for very long but I like them a lot. They seem to set me free me of any concerns about setting up to"do a painting" and I just have fun with hem. It's more like taking notes in colors and I fell I can be more spontaneous and less cautious!
